Caffeine & Dehydration Risk for Heart Health
Caffeine & Dehydration Risk for Heart Health

Experts warn that excessive consumption of caffeine-rich beverages can lead to dehydration, which may increase the risk of serious heart-related issues.

According to senior specialists, including interventional cardiologist Dr. B.M. Goyal, high temperatures during summer already put stress on the body. Consuming drinks like tea, coffee, cold drinks, and alcohol in excess can further reduce water levels in the body, leading to dehydration (hypovolemia).

When the body loses fluids, blood volume decreases, forcing the heart to work harder. This can increase oxygen demand in heart muscles and may trigger conditions like heart attack. Additionally, dehydration can thicken the blood, increasing the risk of clot formation, which may lead to stroke or other serious complications.

Experts also highlight that sugary and caffeinated beverages disturb the body’s fluid balance. Instead, people are advised to stay hydrated with natural drinks like lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water.

Maintaining proper hydration, especially during hot weather, is essential for overall heart health and preventing medical emergencies.
